Vatican Library Digitization Project

Vatican Library Digitization Project

The Vatican Library is updating its online manuscript viewer and navigator and is planning to digitize 3,000 more manuscripts by 2018.

There are currently 500 manuscripts and 600 incunabula available to view in a less-intuitive iteration here, but the new site is now available to browse some featured manuscripts.

The Vatican is looking for funding to digitize its remaining 76,000 manuscripts over 15 years, and they are even using some crowdsourcing techniques.

You can read more about the project in an article from the International Business Times.

The viewer does impose a watermark which is less than ideal, but the images are very high-resolution and the user experience is great for browsing.
