Lori Beth De Hertogh's FSDW Intro

Hi fellow FSDWers!
My name is Lori Beth De Hertogh, and I’m the Director of the Feminist Scholars Digital Workshop. I’m also a Ph.D. student in the Rhetoric & Composition program at Washington State University. In the fall, I’ll take my comprehensive exams (yikes!) and then launch into my dissertation, which I’m looking forward to writing.
The project I’ll be sharing is a draft of an article about pregnancy, disability, and Health 2.0. More specifically, I argue in my piece that online natural birthing communities like Birth Without Fear seek to rewrite rhetorics of disempowerment and disability regarding pregnancy and in so doing, operate as Health 2.0/cyberfeminist spaces. I’m planning to submit the piece to an open-access, online journal.
I’m really looking forward to getting to know my group members (Shannon Walters and Beck Wise) as well as the rest of the folks participating in this year’s workshop!
