Kathleen Fitzpatrick, "Future of Authorship"

HASTAC is pleased to present "The Future of Authorship:  Writing in the Digital Age" by Professor Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Pomona College, at noon on February 9th at Wednesdays at the Center, John Hope Franklin Center, Duke University (2204 Erwin Road).

Dr. Fitzpatrick is author of The Anxiety of Obsolescence: The American Novel in the Age of Television, published in 2006 by Vanderbilt University Press, and of Planned Obsolescence:  Publishing, Technology, and the Future of the Academy, forthcoming from NYU Press and previously made available for open peer review online (http://mediacommons.futureofthebook.org/mcpress/plannedobsolescence).  She is co-founder of the digital scholarly network MediaCommons (http://mediacommons.futureofthebook.org), and has published articles and notes in journals including the Journal of Electronic Publishing, PMLA, Contemporary Literature, and Cinema Journal.

The WATC presentation will run from 12:00-1:00 pm, and afterwards Dr. Fitzpatrick will stay in JHFC Room 240 to discuss her talk and entertain questions and ideas with the students from Cathy Davidson's classes, "This Is Your Brain on the Internet" and "Twenty-first Century Literacies." We welcome any and all faculty, students, and classes to attend and participate in the WATC talk and/or at this post-WATC discussion.

As always, a buffet lunch will be served before the talk.
