HASTAC II

Second Annual HASTAC Conference

MAY 22-24, 2008

University of California, Irvine and University of California, Los Angeles

This year?s theme is?techno-travels? and explores the multiple ways in which place, movement, borders, and identities are being renegotiated and remappedby new locative technologies. Featured projects will delve intomobility as knowledge and stake out new spaces forhumanistic inquiry. How are border-crossings beingre-conceptualized, experienced, and narrated in a world permeated bytechnologies of mobility? How is the geo-spatial web remappingphysical geographies, location, and borderlands? How are digitalcities interfacing with physical space? How do we move betweenvirtual worlds? And what has become of sites of dwelling andstasis in a world saturated by techno-travels?

This year?s conference literalizes and metaphorizes travel, asattendees will participate in sessions at Irvine, Los Angeles, SanDiego, and on the connecting corridors of Southern California.

Here's a tentative conference agenda. Please go to the conference website for updates before the event itself. Or, for additional information, please contact Irena Richter at irichter@uci.edu or 949-824-8900.
