Introduction: Games in education and games in society

Hello everyone, I'm happy to be a part of the 2014 Scholars group.

I'm a PhD student at the University of Maryland's iSchool, and my focus of research is on how digital games are used in education.  Currently I'm working on a study of the social learning behavior that takes place in online spaces dedicated to Minecraft.

In a broader sense, however, I'm also interested in the relationship that games have with society.  In many ways digital games exist as a sort of idealized fantasy version of work, and I think that the way that digital games interact with our physical world economies and societies provides a fascinating area of study.

My ultimate goal is to merge both how people learn in games, and the cultural meaning that this learning takes on.

I've been enjoying reading everyone's introductions, and I'm looking forward to participating in the HASTAC community.
