I am thrilled to be accepted as a 2014-2015 HASTAC Scholar.
I was encouraged by Adeline Koh the Director of the Digital Humanities Department to apply as a HASTAC scholar under her mentorship, after beginning an internship with the department for 2014-2015. I have always had an interest in the digital aspects of writing and social media connections for academia, business, and in social awareness and activism.
I am an undergraduate with the Literature Program at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. I also have a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies, and I am participating in the Digital Humanities Internship. I am working this semester to complete the Front End Web Development Course on TeamTreeHouse.com and will be working with faculty in the Spring on a digital humanites project. I am in the process, as I complete the TeamTreeHouse course, of creating a personal portfolio website of the skills I am gaining in web design and development. I am also in the beginning stages of creating a blog on crafting and upcycling and have a few other niche blog ideas in the works. I am also very interesting in digital activism and in developing new ways to accomplish this and create awareness.
I have worked as a copyeditor for a small local paper in South Jersey and am very interested in journalism, and specifically in the increasingly digital format. I look to get into the editing field when I graduate next year and seek to continue blogging and practicing web design and developing skills.
