Ad Reinhardt
What does it mean for the estate of an artist to withdraw permission to print any of the artist's images and text in a scholarly book? We've been having a lot of conversations about open access and we need to add another element to that conversation: the control of artists, writers, and their descendants on the publication of images that are displayed in museums, sold in the art market, and available in amateur images ubiquitously. The lecture by Michael Corris focuses on Ad Reinhardt but is a far larger issue. I wish our universities and museums would, collectively, enter this debate more vigorously.
