The startups are here again
Information Superhighway to Nowhere
While browsing the almighty Facebook in recent weeks, I noticed that a few acquaintances have banded together and are beginning their own internet startup. I have been instructed to "sign up for an account and get my mom to sign up too." That's all well and good, but I wonder if I'll soon reach the point where too many such offers are diminishing the utility of, say, online organization sites, which this is. (In case you're new, internets overload is the most common theme of my blog entries here thus far.) Very clogged internets tubes, just as Ted Stevens warned us.
Tonight I happened upon killerstartups.com, and I'm fascinated by the sheer number of new sites jockeying for attention. A few minutes of browsing revealed supposed better Youtubes and Craigslists, and a good number of truly original sites as well. Just as when my mental blog roll overflowed, I'm planning to increase the container, so to speak. A few RSS feed readers and other aggregators have allowed me to read as many of the witty and smart blogs as I can find, and I'll somehow accommodate these great new sites as they're created. (And perhaps not all of them will succeed, but that's a matter for future entries.)
