NEH Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant Application Deadline April 3: Philosophers Welcome
Luciano Floridi has sent the memo below to the American Philosophical Society
list serv, encouraging philosophers to apply for NEH Digital Humanities Fellowships.
Applications are due April 3, 2007. For more information, visit

Ron Barnette and I have just been contacted by Brett Bobley, Chief
Information Officer with the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The NEH has a new grant program, called the Digital Humanities Start-Up
Grants. This program is part of their Digital Humanities Initiative.
It is a small grant (up to $30,000) and is designed to fund new projects in
the areas where the humanities intersect with science and technology.
They have had a huge response to this program so far. However, we have
been told that one group that has not sent in many applications is the
philosophical community.
He would like to publicise this grant opportunity better among philosophers
and was hoping we could help him via the IACAP newsletter or website. So
here we are.
For this program, they are looking to get more applications from scholars
who are investigating the philosophical and ethical dimensions of science
(e.g. bio-technology, nanotechnology) and computing. Also studies of how
computing has changed notions of reading, writing, discourse, etc.
