Lynn, this is such a fabulous, valuable round-up; appreciate the post.
Was wondering, in light of all of the new FCC product placement/program integration issues if you could shed any light on research data and specific whitepapers as they pertain to persuasion and pervasiveness among kids with embedded 'brandwashing?' (I'm particularly concerned about ad creep destroying conversations in virtual worlds/the digital space, but I guess that's more of an FTC issue)
Anyway, any neuroscience data you have to share or URLS to point me to would be grand...Also, from a 'use the same tactics to flip the message' approach (which is what Shaping Youth does) we're experimenting with 'seeding' some positive content in a beta tween virtual world to test 'informal learning' re: eco, nutrition, behavioral practices and I wondered if you'd come across some best practices in terms of measurement of outcomes, etc. for online learning? Thanks again for the links. --Amy

Amy,
Thanks for the link to the report. I have some information collected about ads and children- I was planning on revisiting some sources and writing something for one of my blogs.
I do have concerns about applications that children might access using the new brain-computer interface technology. Biofeedback games have been used with children for theraputic purposes, but with the newer technologies, there might be room for some harm. This is basically an uncharted territory.
Regarding ways to measure outcomes of on-line learning, I have some references from a course I took about distance education and on-line communication tools- another topic I was thinking about for a future blog post! I'll post some links and info soon.
Assessment should include multiple measures. An online learning program must make sense to the learner and relate to real-life experiences. The goal is to ensure that the learner can generalize what is learned and relate it to off-line experiences and related activities/pursuits. For health-related content, I think it is important to have measures of behavior changes, related to the subject.
People can study about nutrition and pass a test on what they've just learned, but if they don't make changes in their behaviors - meal planning, grocery shopping, or overall eating habits, have they really learned in a meaningful way?

but wondered about any others....
