Electronic Techtonics Conference Proceedings: The Future Is Here!
Cat in the Stack
I'm excited! Lulu, our Creative Commons publisher, has just delivered the first copies of "Electronic Techtonics: Thinking at the Interface," the Proceedings of the First International HASTAC Conference, edited by the HASTAC Editorial collective of Erin Enns, Zoe Marie Jones, Paolo Mangiafico, Mark Olson, Jennifer Rhee, Mitali Routh, Jonathan E. Tarr, and Brett Walters.
To obtain your copy of the Electronic Techtonics proceedings, go here:

You can download a PDF from there, or order a printed copy (for $12.24) for delivery directly to you.
We decided to do this volume totally Creative Commons, self-publishing all the way. What we learned (of course) is that it is hard work. Really hard. But the product is wonderful, a fantastic documentation of a historic first conference by HASTAC. The book is 209 pages long, and includes the entire conference program from last year, url's for all the video and audio productions of the conference, and many of the papers from the refereed panels that were chaired and selected by members of the Franklin Humanities Institute's Seminar on "Interface," Duke's contribution to the In|Formation Year.
The Editorial Collective is an amazing group that includes doctoral students in Literature (the incomparable Jennifer Rhee), Art, Art History and Visual Studies (whiz Mitali Routh and indefatigibly great Zoe Marie Jones), Communications (Mark Olson, who is also our HASTAC Director of New Media genius). It also includes Erin Ennis (marvelous Digital Media and Learning Competition Program Coordinator), Paolo Mangiofico (Digital Projects Consultant and wizard at Perkins Library and one of the FHI Seminar members last year), Jonathan E. Tarr (all-knowing HASTAC Project Manager), and Brett Walters (HASTAC Webmaster and fab activist-photographer).
Soon we'll be posting order information for this book. It would be great to teach since it is brand new, a fresh new field, and includes such an intriguing array of scholars and topics. More later! I just opened the envelope and am so excited and, as soon as it is available, we'll let you know so you can download it (free) or buy it (from Lulu) or order it for your classes. It's transitional place between documentation and book is fascinating--especially as it has its complementary audio/visual/multimedia component on line.
The motto of the conference was 'THE FUTURE IS SOMEWHERE HERE." This Proceedings--fresh from Lulu-- show where here is!
