Emergent Media and Communications

 

The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Emerging Media and Communications. Applicants' scholarly interest should focus on the social effects of digital networked media and include one or more of the following areas: role of communication and information technologies in social change, history of communication and media, new media and globalization, evolution of community, social networking media, critical theory of media, legal and ethical questions such as copyright, privacy, and surveillance society. Candidates should have a background in media studies and/or the social sciences.

 

With a growing program that focuses on both production and critical examination of emerging technologies we seek an individual who is both a scholar and a participant in these new media structures.   Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to research and teaching. Teaching opportunities will be at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a transdisciplinary approach to studying emerging media and communications that includes faculty from various disciplinary approaches.

 

Appointment for fall 2008. Ph.D. required by time of employment.

Emergent Media and Communications - Design

 

The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Arts and Technology (ATEC), with a focus on design for and in Emerging Media. We invite applications from designers and media artists developing websites and weblogs and/or interactive scenarios for emerging media forms.   Experience one or more of the following areas required: Internet design and publishing and other networked environments; emerging digital communication networks; social networks; virtual worlds; mobile devices. Strong visual and design skills are essential. Knowledge of “web 2.0” technologies and web publishing, social media, user generated content, and other recent Internet developments are desirable. Ph.D. or M.F.A. in appropriate field required.
