Handhelds in Schools: Handheld Augmented Reality (HARP) Project

Fellow K-12 teachers, check out the Handheld Augmented Reality Project (HARP)It's really awesome, Harvard, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and MIT have developed an "augmented reality" game designed to teach math and science literacy skills to middle school students. Professor Squire from the University of Wisconsin at Madison is the lead investigator on this awesome project. The HARP folks are doing really innovative things to better education for kids.

I recently saw Professor Dede and a post doctoral fellow by the name of Matthew Dunleavy tell of this really cool project to Florida school teachers at FETC. As for Florida, well, here's a sign from our school district's teachers' training room...

Handhelds hold so much potential for learning. So teachers-friends check it out, keep an open mind, and think twice before you confiscate the kids' handhelds and lock them in your desk and/or up in the dean's office.
