Today is the twentieth anniversary of the release of the Morris Worm aka the sendmail worm or the Great Worm that was created by Robert Morris. I was at NCSU at the time and remember we lost Net access for a day and a half. It felt weird. I mark this anniversary every year not to celebrate the disruption or condone the behavior, but to consider how much the Internet informs and modifies my thoughts and actions and life, even the parts that are not directly related to this thing that we have built and are building together.
Recommended book for the day: Live Without a Net, an anthology of cyberpunk SF short stories with the common theme "imagine a world without the Internet".
