Please join us in welcoming Ruby as she joins us for her first official day in the office as HASTAC's new Director of New Media Strategy! . . . This means that soon we will be writing a farewell to Mark Olson, one of HASTAC's founding members, a member of our Steering Committee, and our current Director of New Media. But, for ten days, we are in the nirvana of having TWO directors of New Media.

Please join us in welcoming Ruby Sinreich. Ruby is well-known in our area as one of the most engaged social networkers around. She is a dedicated blogger and tweeter and promises to be doing a lot of blogging in the future about HASTAC's back end, policy issues, and social issues of importance to the HASTAC extended and diverse community. You'll be finding out much more about her in the weeks ahead, but, for now, I am going to simply repurpose Mandy Dailey's delightful email to our office HASTAC team here at Duke since it gives the flavor of Ruby. We are thrilled that she is joining us.

WELCOME, RUBY!

--------------

Hi, everyone,

Please join us in welcoming Ruby as she joins us for her first official
day in the office as HASTAC's new Director of New Media Strategy!

Just last week as Jonathan was going through his old email he found some
old meeting minute notes from a Raleigh tech professionals meet-up
group. This email yielded a fantastic story, one that serves as a great
introduction to our newest member. It would seem that Ruby was
scheduled to present on social networking to this group. Unfortunately,
however, disaster struck on the way to her presentation, with her car
breaking down on the side of the highway. Quick thinking social media
guru that she is, Ruby tweeted her way out of disaster, securing a
roadside rescue and delivery to her meeting, where she gave her
presentation. Now THAT is innovative use of Twitter and social media! :)

Welcome, Ruby! We are thrilled to have you join the HASTAC team and look
forward to working with (and learning from) you.

Best,
Mandy

Welcome to RubY!

So social networking software can aid connectivity of and is an effect multiplier in, but does not replace, social networks (not that I saw anyone claiming it did).
