Open Access Anthropology

I recently posted about my experience attending this year's American Anthropological Association conference. I reviewed several panels at the intersection of ethnography, digital information technology, and the digital information technology industry (I should have added the word "communication" somewhere in there, oh well, next time). Now, I'd like to share something else related to that post: Open Access Anthropology. Open Access Anthropology is an initiative to create an open access repository of scholarly Anthropology articles. The OAA initiative has been lead mainly by Savage Minds' Rex, Kerim, and Chris, who organized a OAA meeting during the AAA conference. Although not having been listed in the conference program, the OAA meeting brought in more attendees than some of the official panels; I attribute this to the collective recognition of the importance of OAA, rather than the fact that the meeting was held at Gordon Biersch brewery (home of the some of the Bay Area's most delicious Hefeweizen and garlic fries).
