Beiyi Hu is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the Graduate Center, CUNY. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Minzu University of China and an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. Her research primarily centers on ethnoracial inequalities, racial legacies, international migration, geographical sociology, and nationhood in Sweden. Beiyi’s dissertation examines the narrative of Swedish exceptionalism and explores how race is interpreted and operates in colorblind Sweden. Her study aims to shed light on the multifaceted impacts of race on various dimensions of individuals’ lives, including identity formation, labor market opportunities, residential arrangements, and everyday conversations and interactions.
